Shoutout to that random Tuesday shift at the coffee shop in Portland that made me stop doubting my choice to leave school

Totally agree with @nina_butler. Forced networking feels fake. The real good stuff comes from just helping someone fix a problem at work. Like that time I stayed late to help a coworker with a report, and a year later they put in a word for me at their new company. You just do good work for people and they remember.

My sister, a librarian, said 'a book's spine is just a hinge, not a sculpture' when I showed her my latest leather-tooled cover. It's been bothering me for a week.

Ugh, heard a similar thing about bookbinding being "just craft.

Tried quenching a leaf spring in used motor oil and it came out way too soft

Man, used motor oil? That's a new one. I've heard of guys using old transmission fluid in a real pinch, but dirty oil is full of junk that'll mess with the heat pull for sure. Canola oil works because it's clean and consistent, but even then you gotta watch the flash point on bigger pieces. Next time maybe try preheating whatever oil you use to around 130 degrees, it helps a bit when you're stuck without the good stuff.

Noticed a big shift in how we handle keypad wiring on new builds.

Remember that time my uncle tried to fix his own lamp? He left like a FOOT of extra cord just coiled up behind the table. Looked so messy and my aunt tripped on it like three times. Sometimes that extra stuff IS a big deal because it just gets in the way later.

My brother-in-law saw my half-built guitar in the garage and just asked 'what's the story with this thing?'

Why does everything need a story? Maybe he just likes building things for the fun of it, no big meaning needed. It's a hobby, not a book report. Some people just enjoy the work of putting something together with their hands.
