Just hit 500 sourdough loaves baked since 2020 and I honestly never thought I'd stick with it this long
I still remember burning my first batch of starter in a 90 degree kitchen that summer and now I can't believe I've actually kept this up for five years, what milestone made you realize you were in this for real?

You really counting every single loaf that's pretty wild. 500 loaves is like baking enough bread to build a small fort or feed a whole neighborhood during the apocalypse. What was your secret to not just yeeting the starter out the window after that first burnt batch?

350 loaves ago I started writing down which neighbor liked what kind of bread. Now I've got a little notebook full of names and preferences. My wife thinks it's weird but when someone's having a bad week you can drop off a loaf of their favorite and they know you actually listened.

and honestly @wren_walker62 I used to be the same way, I thought keeping count was kinda obsessive too. But around loaf 200 something clicked for me. It wasn't about the number, it was about realizing I could actually do this thing every week without failing. I think my moment was when I gave a loaf to my neighbor who'd just lost her mom and she cried because it reminded her of her grandmother's kitchen. That's when I knew this wasn't just a hobby anymore, it was something that connected me to people in a way I didn't expect. The burnt starter and all the cracked crusts were just part of the process. Funny how something that started out so frustrating became the thing I look forward to most.
