Shoutout to the old barber who told me I was fading too fast on the sides

After a client in Tulsa complained about a harsh line on a $35 cut last Tuesday, I slowed down my clipper work and started using a 1.5 guard for blending instead of jumping straight to a 1 - has anyone else had a mentor call them out on a specific technique that totally shifted how they approach fades?

Honestly I used to think you could just eyeball the fade and fix mistakes as you go, but that old barber was right. After I got called out for rushing the blend on a client who kept coming back with a visible line I started using the 1.5 guard too. It makes such a difference keeping everything smooth before you even touch the 1 guard, I don't know why I fought it for so long.

Wait @laurar38, didn't you find the 1.5 guard feels too bulky on some heads?

Wait wait wait - "called out for rushing the blend on a client who kept coming back"??" Someone actually called you out for that? That's brutal man, I'd be mortified if a client pointed out a visible line like that.
