Appreciation post: the old mechanic who schooled me on headset reaming

I had a guy come into the shop last month, probably 70 years old, and watched me struggle with a headset install on a 90s Trek. He didn't say anything for 10 minutes, just watched. Then he pointed to the reamer and said "you're not feeding it slow enough, that's why it's chattering." I argued back for a minute about technique, but he was right. After I followed his advice, the race sat perfect first try. So here's the debate: do you think older hands-on wisdom beats modern online tutorials, or is it just nostalgia?

Buddy of mine had a similar thing happen at a co-op. Old timer showed up, watched him mess up a cup press for ten minutes, then just handed him a different driver and walked off. Worked perfect first try after that.

Three millimeters at a time, that's the secret with a Park headset reamer. I've seen guys try to hog out too much material in one pass and end up with a weird wobble that never seats right. Online videos can show you the tool but they can't transfer that feel for how the cutting edge bites into the frame.
