Why does nobody talk about taping your chipping hammer handle
Last week on a job at the Marathon refinery, I snapped my third chipping hammer handle this year. Got sick of buying replacements so I wrapped the whole thing in electrical tape, about 4 layers thick. It deadens the vibration way more than I expected and my hand doesn't go numb after a full shift now. Anyone else do something weird to their tools that actually works?

Tape is a band-aid fix but sometimes band-aids are exactly what you need. Nobody's out here swapping out their whole tool setup every time a handle cracks, that's just not practical for site work. Plus the vibration dampening from the tape is real, I've seen guys wrap their hammer handles in old inner tubes for the same reason and it works fine. Trapping grit against the handle is a non-issue if you just wipe it down at the end of the week, that's basic tool care. Let's be real, most of these premium rubber handles cost as much as three chipping hammers anyway, so taping what you've got is the smarter play.

Gotta say, I think you're just covering up a symptom instead of fixing the real issue. Tape might feel better short term but it traps sweat and grit against the handle, which will rot wood or corrode steel faster. Maybe look into a rubber dipped handle or a different brand that just doesn't vibrate as bad.
