How one comment about pacing changed my whole book club approach

Back in 2019, our group was reading "The Goldfinch" and I kept pushing everyone to finish by our 2-week deadline. One member finally told me "you're turning this into a race, not a discussion." He was right (I was rushing through chapters just to check boxes). I switched to giving people 3-4 weeks for longer books and started asking what stood out to them instead of what page they were on. Now our meetings go way deeper, we actually debate themes instead of plot points. Has anyone else had to adjust their timeline after getting called out?

Rushing it for a deadline definitely kills the whole point of reading together.

Big mood tbh. Deadlines just wreck the whole cozy vibe of it.
