Picked the cheaper book club pick over the popular one and regretted it immediately

Our club had a vote between two books last month - one was the big new thriller everyone was talking about, all 480 pages of it, and the other was a quiet little memoir only 220 pages. I pushed hard for the memoir because I thought we could actually finish it in two weeks (our usual pace). We went with my pick, and three members told me after the first chapter that they found it boring and wished they'd pushed for the thriller instead. When discussion night came around, only 4 out of 12 of us had even finished the book, and two people straight-up admitted they gave up on page 60. The vibes were so awkward, and now I feel like I wasted everyone's time over a 25 dollar book. Has anyone else here had their club completely reject a pick that you personally loved? How do you bounce back from that without holding a grudge?

Did I recommend a book that even I couldn't finish? Guilty as charged.

With all due respect, the club voted on the memoir and committed to it so maybe the problem is people not willing to give a shorter, quieter book a fair shot.
