A customer pointed out my paint mixing habit and it actually helped

This guy buying a gallon of semi-gloss told me I always tap the can three times on the counter before handing it over. I never noticed. Now I tap it five times, just to be sure it's mixed right. Anyone else have a tiny thing they do without thinking?

Ever wonder if that little habit is actually a tiny superstition? Like maybe you're not just mixing paint, you're doing a luck thing without knowing it. I bet we all have stuff like that, little rituals that feel like part of the job but are really just for our own heads. Okay but calling it a superstition feels like a stretch. It's just a routine, something that makes the work feel familiar. People do that stuff to get in the right headspace, not to ward off bad luck. Giving it a fancy name makes it seem way more important than it actually is. Most of the time it's just a dumb little thing you do without thinking.
