My new greenhouse heater almost cooked my entire collection in one night

I was in my backyard greenhouse in Portland last winter, and the new 1500-watt heater I bought got stuck on high. I woke up to a 95-degree reading on the thermometer and half my orchids, including a named Phalaenopsis 'Sogo Yukidian', were completely wilted. I had to open everything up and move the plants to my cool garage to try and save them. Has anyone else had a heater fail like that, and what brand do you trust now?

Check the thermostat with a separate thermometer. Those things can be way off.

My old apartment in Chicago had a thermostat that read 72 but felt like a freezer. I ended up buying three cheap thermometers and they all showed 68. It's wild how much we trust these little digital boxes to tell us the truth about basic stuff. Makes you wonder what else around the house is quietly lying to you.

Always figured my thermostat was pretty solid. But your story makes me want to check mine now. Might be off by a few degrees and I'd never know.
