My buddy at the shop in Springfield said 'just mud it' for a quarter panel, but I'm not so sure.

He was talking about a 2017 Civic with a decent dent, not huge but not small either. I saw the car later and the filler was almost a quarter inch thick in spots. I've always been taught that's asking for trouble down the line, especially with temperature swings. Where do you guys draw the line between using filler and just replacing the panel?

Question about a bullet journal milestone I just hit

I was flipping back through my 2024 journal and counted 47 straight days where I filled out my daily gratitude log. I honestly didn't think I'd stick with it past a week. How do you guys keep a long streak going without burning out on it?

Just realized my writer's block fix came from a fortune cookie

I was stuck on a short story for two weeks, couldn't get past the first page. I got Chinese takeout last Friday and my fortune said 'A strange visitor will bring the answer.' So I wrote that a talking raccoon showed up at my main character's door. It was dumb, but I kept going just to see what happened. That silly raccoon actually led me into the plot I needed. Has anyone else used something that random to kickstart a story?

Shoutout to the bank teller who finally sorted out my old savings account

I had a savings account from when I was a kid that my parents set up at a local credit union. When I went to close it last month, they said I needed a paper form signed by my dad, who passed away five years ago. I figured it would be a simple call, maybe a death certificate. Nope. It took three separate visits, a notarized affidavit, and digging up a bank statement from 2002 to prove the account was even mine. The whole thing dragged on for almost six weeks. The teller who finally helped me said the rules for these 'dormant' accounts got way more strict after 2008, and their old paper records were a mess. Has anyone else hit a brick wall trying to deal with an account from before the digital switch?

My neighbor said he just slaps spackle on nail holes without primer

I was helping him patch some drywall in his garage in Akron and watched him skip the primer step entirely, which made me realize I've probably been doing it wrong for a decade. The patches looked fine that day, but a month later he called me over and they were all cracking and flaking off. For small fixes like that, is primer actually non-negotiable, or was it something else he did wrong?

My new greenhouse heater almost cooked my entire collection in one night

I was in my backyard greenhouse in Portland last winter, and the new 1500-watt heater I bought got stuck on high. I woke up to a 95-degree reading on the thermometer and half my orchids, including a named Phalaenopsis 'Sogo Yukidian', were completely wilted. I had to open everything up and move the plants to my cool garage to try and save them. Has anyone else had a heater fail like that, and what brand do you trust now?
