Dropped $80 on a laser level for brick walls and it was a total waste

You said "worked way better for me" but that just means you haven't used a decent laser level on brick yet. Chalk lines smudge, blow away in the wind, and leave crooked marks if the line snaps even a little off. A good laser level with a rotary base projects a straight line across the entire wall without any of that mess. Maybe the $80 one you grabbed was a cheap model. I picked up a Bosch GCL 2-160 for around that price and it saved me hours on a brick patio job because it kept level over 30 feet of uneven blocks.

Grabbed a chalk line instead, worked way better for me.
