My cousin's 'just hit it with a hammer' advice actually worked on my Xbox
I mean, my Xbox One S was making this awful grinding noise like a dying blender. I was ready to drop $200 on a replacement. My cousin Mike came over, listened to it for like 30 seconds, and said 'just give it a firm tap on the top with a rubber mallet.' I laughed at him. But after 3 days of frustration I tried it. One solid whack and the noise stopped completely. It's been 2 weeks and it's totally fine now. I still don't understand how that's possible. Has anyone else had a dumb fix like this actually work?

That tap probably just knocked a stuck fan blade loose or something, not really a permanent fix or anything you should rely on. Eventually that grinding noise is coming back, maybe with a vengeance, and then you're really gonna be out a console. Real solutions involve cleaning the fan or replacing it, not treating your electronics like a broken TV from the 90s.

Man, that's exactly how people treat everything these days, isn't it? A quick smack or a bandaid fix gets them by for now but they never wanna deal with the actual problem until it's way too late. It's the same with cars, appliances, even relationships... people just keep knocking things loose instead of doing the real work.
