Met a guy at Aldi who taught me the 1-week rule for buying stuff

I was standing in the checkout line last Saturday and this older dude saw me eyeing a fancy cheese. He said 'if it's not in your cart for a full week, you don't need it.' Honestly that hit different than any budgeting app I've tried. Has anyone else gotten weirdly good advice from strangers in the grocery store?

Honestly I gotta push back on the "full week" thing. That cheese would be moldy or past its prime by day 7 if it's a nice soft one, so you'd just be tossing money in the trash. Plus some stuff like fresh produce or meat is time sensitive by nature you know? I think a better rule is giving yourself 24 hours to decide, not a whole week. That way you still have that cool-down period to avoid impulse buys but you don't end up wasting food either.

@emmasmith yeah I've started doing 48 hours instead and it's been way easier on my wallet and fridge...
