Shoutout to the envelope system for making me realize how much I was spending on takeout
I started using cash envelopes three months ago after a friend at work kept talking about it. First month I put $200 in the eating out envelope. Ran out by the 12th. Second month I bumped it to $250, still ran out by the 18th. Third month I got serious and meal prepped on Sundays. That envelope lasted almost the whole month. Turns out I was dropping $60 a week just on lunch at the food court near my office. Anyone else find a specific category that was way higher than you thought?

The takeout one hit me hard too, I found out I was basically funding a second mortgage with DoorDash fees. I had to admit defeat and uninstall the app from my phone because my willpower is basically a wet napkin. Now I just make sad sandwiches at home and pretend they're gourmet.

@jason958 you nailed it with the wet napkin comparison. I had to delete Uber Eats from my phone too because I kept ordering food when I was tired. My credit card statement was actually scary one month. I saw a line item for a single burrito delivery that cost more than my weekly grocery budget. Now I keep frozen burritos in the freezer for those weak moments. It helps a little but I still miss the real thing.
