I thought setting up a new bullet journal would take an afternoon. It took me a full week.

I got a new notebook last Tuesday and figured I'd just transfer my collections and set up my monthly and weekly spreads. Easy, right? But then I got stuck on my future log. I couldn't decide on a layout that felt right. I tried three different formats, redrew it twice, and spent hours just on that one page. By the time I finished migrating my trackers and project lists, it was the following Monday. I guess I'm more particular than I thought. Has anyone else had a simple setup turn into a major time sink?

Oh man, that's why I just use a regular notebook.

Try using a pencil for the future log first, saves you from redrawing everything. @kai463 has a point about keeping it simple though.

Haven't you ever had a pencil smear all over the opposite page though? I switched to a fine-tip pen because of that. But the real trick is using a really light hand with the pencil so you don't dig into the paper. Then you can erase cleanly if plans change. That's the whole point of the future log, right? It's supposed to be flexible. So maybe a mechanical pencil with a soft eraser is the best of both worlds.
