A guy at the Columbus trade show told me to raise my prices 20% on the spot
Was at a small business expo in Columbus last month, mostly just walking around collecting free pens. Stopped at a booth run by a guy who does bookkeeping for service shops. He asked what I charge, I told him, and he just shook his head. Said I was the third person that day who was scared to charge what the work is worth, and that a 20% bump would lose me almost nobody. Tried it on my next three quotes and two of them said yes without blinking. Curious if anyone else got pricing advice from a total stranger at an event.
20% isn't a magic number that works for every shop, some markets will push back way harder than others. Your test worked, but two out of three isn't proof it always will, lol.
