I finally realized most businesses mess up their social media ads by ignoring local specifics

I've been running a small bakery in Portland for about 7 years now, and I keep seeing other shops dump money into generic Facebook ads that target everyone in the city. Last month I spent $300 on ads just targeting the two neighborhoods around my shop with a picture of my best-selling sourdough, and my in-store sales jumped 18% that week. It's like people forget that a customer in Beaverton probably isn't driving 20 minutes for a loaf of bread, but someone three blocks away will come in four times a week. Has anyone else had way better luck narrowing down to a zip code or two?

Yeah, Beaverton to Portland for bread is a real hike. I mean, I'm in the moving business so I see folks' commutes all the time, and 20 minutes is a lot for a grocery run. You're totally right that hyperlocal is where it's at for bakeries.

Have you tried testing how far people actually will drive for a good croissant or loaf? I see local ads work great too but sometimes a 20 minute drive is nothing if the product is unique enough.
