Vent: Everyone says to use OEM parts for everything, but my 1998 F-150 runs better on aftermarket brake pads from AutoZone

Got stuck on I-10 outside Tucson last summer with smoking brakes after I replaced them with the "correct" Motorcraft pads from the dealer. Swapped to the cheap Duralast gold ones and they've been solid for 14 months now. The OEM ones had some weird dust buildup issue nobody warned me about. Am I the only one who thinks the whole "only use factory parts" crowd is overthinking it for older trucks?

Not to pile on but I gotta ask - did you actually bed those Motorcraft pads in right? I've seen so many people slap new pads on and just go driving, then wonder why they glaze over and smoke. The OEM ones might have been fine if you did the hard stops from 40mph a few times to transfer the material. But still, your point stands for older trucks. My experience with these 90s Fords is they were built around parts that were already outdated by the time they hit the dealer lot. So aftermarket stuff that's been iterated on for 20 years can actually work better. What rotors were you running with the Motorcraft pads? That dust buildup sounds like a pad compound mismatch to me, not necessarily a quality problem.

Smoking brakes on I-10"? Dude, that's terrifying.
