Wasted $150 on a cheap router bit set. Don't do it.

Thought I was being smart saving money. Bought a 15-piece set online for $150. Looked fine in the package. First bit snapped on cherry wood within 5 minutes. Second one wobbled so bad it left burn marks. Tried the third on maple. Chip-out was terrible. Had to throw the whole set out. Two days of work ruined. Waste of cash and time. You guys have any luck with mid-range bits that won't break the bank?

Man I had almost the exact same thing happen with a set I grabbed from a random hardware store online. Tried using one of the bits on some plywood and it started smoking after like 30 seconds. The whole thing just fell apart in my hands. Ended up spending another 80 bucks on Whiteside bits from a local shop and those have been solid for months now. I swear cheap router bits are just made to break so you keep buying more.

100 percent @parker224, that smoking and falling apart thing is the classic cheap bit warning sign. It's like that with everything now, not just router bits. I've noticed it with batteries, power strips, even cooking pans at the grocery store. You buy the cheapest option and it literally fails in a weird way, but the middle ground stuff is decent enough. The real waste is the time and frustration, not just the few bucks saved.
