Warning: Ignored a friend's advice about stove fuel and paid for it
My buddy Tom told me not to use isobutane below freezing, but I figured it would be fine on a 28 degree night in the Smokies. Ended up waiting 20 minutes for my coffee water to barely simmer. Has anyone else learned this one the hard way?

I waited 20 minutes for my coffee water to barely simmer" really hits home, man. I used to be one of those guys who thought fuel is fuel and it doesn't matter. Like, I'd throw a canister in my pack and just assume it works the same no matter what. But last winter up in the Adirondacks at 15 degrees I learned real quick. I sat there for almost an hour trying to boil water for dinner and it never even got to a full boil. I ended up eating a cold meal and it was miserable. Definitely changed my whole view on canister fuel and temps.

Man, I feel this one deep in my cold bones... My friend Jake tried to warn me about the same thing up in the White Mountains and I just laughed it off like I knew better. Ended up sitting there watching my stove sputter for a solid 30 minutes while my ramen just floated around in lukewarm water. At least I got a really good arm workout from shaking the canister to keep it from freezing up... not that it helped much.
