A buddy's defense of that canceled chef made me flip on the whole thing

Last week a friend from Portland argued that the line cook who got axed for an old racist tweet deserved a second shot because he'd done 5 years of charity work since. I normally say canceled means canceled, but he pulled up the actual timeline and the apology from 2018, and it hit different seeing the receipts. Now I'm not so sure the pile-on does anything but make us feel smug. Has anyone else switched sides on a case after someone showed you the full story?

Seeing the actual timeline changes things, no doubt. The 2018 apology plus the charity work is a lot more than most folks get. The pile-on usually just makes people dig in, not learn. Sometimes the full story really does show a different person than the tweet.
