Paid $200 for a PR firm to write an apology statement after a bad take blew up
They just made it sound like a corporate robot wrote it and the internet roasted me harder, has anyone else tried the DIY route instead?

Fired off my own apology draft after seeing what $200 got them. Mine was basically "yeah i was wrong and i said a dumb thing, sorry about that." Got way less hate than their corporate version which had like three paragraphs about "learning journeys" and "growth opportunities." Made the mistake of asking a friend to proofread it first though. She just sent back "this sounds like you're sorry you got caught, not sorry you said it." So I scrapped that too and just posted the raw version. Internet still roasted me but at least it was over faster.

Two hundred dollars for a corporate apology is actually a smart investment when you think about it. The three paragraph version about "learning journeys" is exactly what brands need to say because it shows they understand the PR game isn't about being genuine, it's about looking like they're playing by the rules. Your raw apology might have felt more honest but it also proved you didn't learn anything since you basically just admitted you got caught. The internet roasted you anyway so the shorter version clearly didn't save you much time or grief. Plus the corporate one gives the company something to point to and say "see we tried" which actually works better in the long run. Sometimes playing the game and saying the stupid corporate stuff is the only way to make the whole thing go away faster.
