The cashier who canceled me for asking about a sale price

Last Tuesday I was at the checkout line at a Target in Austin and asked the cashier if a certain brand of granola bars were actually on sale since the shelf tag said 20% off. She got real quiet, scanned them, and then said loudly enough for the guy behind me to hear that I was 'price policing' and making her job harder. I was just trying to get a deal. She then put down the scanner and walked off to talk to her manager. I stood there for like five minutes holding my granola bars while a small line formed. Has anyone else been publicly shamed for just asking a simple question at a register?

Yeah, I used to think cashiers were always right but this totally changed my mind.

Hold up, I gotta disagree with you on this one. I work retail part time and I see people all the time who think a shelf tag means something it doesn't. That cashier probably gets yelled at ten times a day about prices she has no control over. If you asked nicely and she still snapped, yeah that sucks. But calling for a manager over granola bars during a rush is a little much on both sides. Maybe she was having a bad day, maybe you came off more demanding than you meant to.
