My boss told me I was too defensive in meetings and it stung but she was right

I used to jump in and argue every little point until my manager pulled me aside and said 'you're making people not want to share ideas around you.' I started just nodding and saying 'tell me more' instead of pushing back right away and now people actually come to me with stuff. Has anyone else had feedback that felt personal but actually fixed how you work?

Yeah but is being "too defensive" really that big of a deal? Half the time people just want to vent not get a solution anyway. If they're still coming to you with their ideas your manager was probably just trying to polish you up for no reason.

Three people sat in on that one meeting and he still came to you with the same idea later? That's wild. I can't believe he didn't take the hint the first two times.
