Saw a post about 'quiet quitting' that actually made sense
I read a thread on LinkedIn yesterday where someone said quiet quitting isn't about being lazy, it's about setting boundaries after being overworked for 3 years. My own job at a small marketing firm has had me doing two people's roles since we lost a coworker in 2023. Has anyone else seen a big difference between how younger and older coworkers view work-life balance at your company?

Older coworkers think I'm nuts for leaving at 5pm on the dot.

Caught a segment on the local news about how younger workers are setting better boundaries with their time. It's a whole generational shift thing. @emma_burns96, your coworkers are probably from an era where staying late was worn like a badge of honor, even if you had nothing left to give. You're doing it right by protecting your personal life, that's not nuts at all. Setting a hard stop at 5pm just means you value your time, and honestly that's something more people should learn to do.

The looks I get when I pack up at 5:01 are something else. It's like they expect me to just sit there staring at a blank screen for another hour out of some sense of duty. Good for you for not getting sucked into that whole performative "look how dedicated I am" thing they have going on. A job is a transaction, not a personality. You swap your time for a paycheck, and when the time is up, you leave. That is not nuts, that is just having a functioning brain.
