Switched from warehouse work to a solar panel installer job on a whim
I mean, I was sure the whole 'networking' thing was just a bunch of talk, but a guy I used to work with in the warehouse mentioned his crew needed help. I took the chance, and after six months of training, I'm making about 15% more. The physical part is similar, but being outside is a huge change. Has anyone else made a jump based on just one person's tip?

My old roommate from the diner job told me about a gig with a landscaping crew. I was making $14 an hour washing dishes, now I'm at $18 just moving sprinklers. It's wild how one random conversation can flip things.

Honestly, that's how most real jobs get filled. The whole "apply online" thing is a black hole. Every decent job I've had came from just knowing someone who knew they needed a body. It's not even fancy networking, it's just people talking about work. Makes you wonder what the point of all those job sites even is.
