Hit 1,000 carpets installed last month and the numbers shook me
I ran the totals after finishing a job in Oakville last week. Turns out I've done over 1,000 rooms in 8 years. That's a lot of knee pads and seam tape. What really got me was the waste I never tracked before. Has anyone else added up their total footage and felt surprised by it?

See it different myself. I've been doing floors for over a decade and I look at scrap as just part of the deal. You're always going to have waste with seams and odd shaped rooms, trying to squeeze every last inch usually means more callbacks for me because the pattern didn't line up or the piece shifted. I'd rather lose a bit of material than lose a whole day fixing a problem I created by being too tight with the cutting. The real waste I worried about was time, not vinyl.

Man, track your scrap pile for a month and you'll really feel it. I started weighing leftover vinyl and carpet scraps per job, that opened my eyes to where I was wasting material.
