Buddy at work told me I'm stupid for not checking brake fluid age before bleeding

He said old fluid absorbs moisture and can boil over on a long downhill, and I'd never even thought about that. My 2001 Camry has 180k on it and I've never changed the fluid, just topped it off. Anyone actually test their fluid or just swap it every couple years?

... and @emmajackson brings up a good point about that Subaru, but honestly I've got 180k on my old Corolla and never once checked the fluid. I just bleed them when they feel spongy. Seems like overthinking something that's worked fine for decades.
