Tried a polypropylene brush on a heavy creosote job and it melted

Was cleaning a fireplace insert last Tuesday and the brush bristles started fusing together on the second sweep. Learned the hard way that polypropylene can't take the heat near a firebox, so now I only use steel wire for the heavy stuff. Anyone else run into this with certain brush materials?

Ah, poly melts way too fast near any real heat source

Man I learned that one the hard way, stick with nylon if it's gonna be near ANY heat.

Not quite right actually - "poly" usually means polyester in fabric talk, and that stuff can take quite a bit of heat before it gives up. Maybe you're thinking of polypropylene or something? That stuff melts if you look at it wrong.
