Just passed $1,200 in food saved using my $15 dry erase board

My fridge used to be a black hole for leftovers and half-used jars. Last month I stuck a cheap whiteboard on the door and started writing down every item that went in plus when it needed to go out. Hit $1,200 in roughly 9 months of not tossing stuff that was still good but hidden. That number surprised me because it's way more than I thought I was wasting before. Does anyone else track what's in there or am I just a weirdo who likes math with his condiments?

Wait, didn't you ever find like 3 jars of half-eaten pickles in your fridge and wonder if they've merged into one super pickle? Sorry, that's the first thing your post made me think of. I tried the whiteboard thing but gave up after a week because I kept forgetting to erase stuff and ended up with a drawing of a sad potato next to a note that said "mystery meat, probably Tuesday?" Now I just eat whatever looks least fuzzy.

That $1,200 is wild, but honestly it makes me wonder how many other areas of my life are like that. Like once you actually write stuff down, the invisible waste becomes super obvious, whether it's food or time or money. I did something similar with my monthly bills once and ended up finding a whole subscription I forgot about, ha.
