My zero waste week went great until I realized I'd been composting my car keys for 4 days
Found them digging through the bin trying to fish out a moldy avocado, and now my wife won't let me live it down - has anyone else accidentally tossed something important in the compost?

Wait, is the magnet trick from @olivia_morgan8 as simple as it sounds? I used to think stuff like that was overkill but now I'm definitely grabbing a bright one for the fridge. Sticking it near the compost bin makes way too much sense to ignore.

Three days ago I fished my wedding ring out of a coffee ground bucket, so yes, I feel your pain. I stick a bright colored kitchen magnet on anything small that might end up in the wrong pile, which has saved me at least twice since then. Maybe try keeping a little tray by the compost for random stuff you pull out of pockets, mine has caught two pens and a pair of earbuds so far.
