Changed my mind about comic conventions after hitting up Baltimore Comic-Con last weekend
I always thought comic cons were just overpriced autograph lines and crowded aisles. But I spent $40 on a Saturday pass and ended up talking to a retired artist who drew a full page sketch for me on the spot for $20. He told me stories about working on 90s X-Men books that I never read about online. I still don't love the big floor crowds, but has anyone else found a hidden gem like that at a smaller show?

Dropped $60 combined on two mystery bags at a small con in Ohio last year and ended up with a beat-up copy of a 1970s Spider-Man issue that was worth like three times what I paid for the whole bag. The vendor just shrugged and said he was clearing out his basement. My wife still brings it up whenever I complain about spending money on anything.

Argue the opposite for a second - those mystery bags are usually just junk the vendor couldn't sell. I grabbed one at a small show in Texas once and got a water-damaged comic from 1996 nobody's ever heard of. And @ryanf66, your wife might have a point if that one win is the exception, not the rule.
