Talked to a guy who only reads first issues and it made me mad at first

I was at the shop last Wednesday grabbing the new Savage Sword and this older dude told me he only buys #1 issues. He has like 400 long boxes full of nothing but first issues. I asked him why and he said he just likes the setup and the cover art, doesn't care how the story ends. At first I thought that was a waste but then I realized he's been reading comics since the 70s and probably got tired of following long runs. Has anyone else met collectors who do something weird like that?

That 40 year collection just needs a "Do Not Touch" sign and a gift shop.
