Vent: Dropped $300 on a 'complete' Silver Age run that was anything but
I saw an online listing for a full run of a classic Silver Age title, advertised as 'complete, VG condition' for a flat $300. The pictures looked okay, so I jumped on it. When the box showed up, half the issues were from the wrong series entirely, and the ones that were right were in rough shape, like, missing centerfold pages rough. I tried to get a refund, but the seller ghosted me after I pointed out the problems. It was a total scam, and now I'm out the cash with a box of nearly worthless books. I guess I learned the hard way to ask for way more pictures before sending money to a random seller. Has anyone else gotten burned on a big 'complete set' buy like this? How do you protect yourself?

That exact thing happened to me with a run of Amazing Spider-Man. Paid $250 for #30-50, and five key issues were just photocopies tucked inside the bags. My rule now is I ask for a video call. I tell the seller to grab the stack and flip through each book on camera, showing the front and back covers and a random inside page. If they won't do that, I walk away. It filters out the scammers fast. For a $300 buy, it's worth the ten minutes of their time.

Photocopies tucked inside the bags? That's a whole new level of low, wow. That's not just a scam, that's someone putting in actual effort to rip you off. The video call idea is actually super smart, gotta remember that. Makes it way harder for them to hide stuff like missing pages or the wrong book entirely. Sorry that happened to you both, losing that much cash on a bad deal just feels awful.
