Old diver told me to stop using zip ties on my hoses and switch to velcro wraps

I was out at a job in Port Fourchon last month and a guy with 30 years in the water told me zip ties eventually crack from pressure changes and can cut your hose. I thought he was just being old school, but after one zip tie broke mid-dive and I lost a tool bag, I switched. Now I use industrial velcro wraps and they hold way better, plus they don't chew up the rubber. Anyone else have a piece of gear advice from an old timer that actually saved them some hassle?

Lost gear sucks, glad the velcro trick worked for you.

Velcro is honestly one of those things you don't appreciate until you need it bad. A couple of sticky patches on your bag flap can save you from losing a lens cap or a battery pack on a rough trail. It's cheap insurance that weighs nothing and takes two seconds to apply. I still don't get why more gear bags don't come with a velcro strip already sewn in as standard. Have you ever had a piece of gear fall out without noticing until way later?
