A simple solder job saved a client's monitor from the dump

The screen had a loose ribbon cable, so I soldered it back on. Now, most places would just sell them a new monitor. Why are we so quick to replace instead of repair?

My old TV had the same ribbon cable problem, but the repair guy told me it was cheaper to buy a new one. Laura_lane is right, it feels like a lost art because the whole system is set up to make fixing things a hassle. They don't even stock the parts half the time, they just want to sell you the next model.

Actually Laura_lane, it's not a lost art, people just don't have the time or tools anymore.

Since when did fixing stuff become a lost art?
