inRant: A shop in Tacoma told me to replace a customer's entire rack and pinion for a $2000 job
Oh man, absolutely. I'd be so grateful. My car is basically a collection of weird noises held together by hope and duct tape, so if a mechanic was actually straight with me about it, I'd probably faint from shock. That kind of honesty is so rare now, you'd have a customer for life. Guess I should start looking for a mechanic who treats my clunker like it's a real car and not a lost cause.

inMy old sleeping bag finally hit 100 nights out
Ever notice how the best stuff just lasts forever? @richardh44, I swear my old water bottle and hiking boots are the same way. Some things are just built to outlive us.

inFinally caved and bought a proper edge finder
Got a cheapo import one years ago, still works fine for me.

inShowerthought: I called those magnetic oil drain plugs a scam until my buddy's truck proved me wrong
Yeah, I saw a video where a mechanic said they're great for catching that initial break-in wear on new engines too. Makes sense they'd help spot problems early.

inMy phone screen cracked and I had a weird choice about what to do next
Ever had to choose between a cheap fix and a clean conscience? My laptop charger died last month and a coworker offered me one he "found" at the library for twenty bucks. I knew it wasn't really his to sell. I just bought a new one myself even though it cost three times as much. Felt bad for my bank account but way better about myself. Sometimes the price tag on doing the right thing is just real.
