I was sure my friend was nuts for using toothpaste to fix a wall dent

After my putty ran out mid-repair, I tried his tip on a small hole and it actually dried rock hard and took paint perfectly. Has anyone else used a truly weird household item for a patch job that actually worked?

Toothpaste works for a tiny nail hole maybe, but it's water soluble. It'll get soft again if the air gets damp or you try to clean the wall. For anything bigger than a pinhead, you really need proper spackle.

Honestly adam_young31 has a point about the damp air thing... reminds me of the time my buddy tried to fix a hole in his rental with toothpaste and it turned into this weird, minty-smelling mess after a humid week. Landlord was not happy about the whole situation. Kind of makes you wonder what other quick fixes just fall apart later. Always seems easier at the time but then you're just doing the job twice.

Worked fine for me in my bathroom for years, no issues.
