inBought a new headset for the radio and it was totally worth it
Spending that much on a headset seems a bit much for radio work. A decent pair from a hardware store usually does the job just fine without all the extra cost. The old one cutting out once doesn't mean you need a top-tier replacement. Keeping a cheap spare in the glove box makes more sense than buying another expensive brand. It's just a tool, not a piece of life-saving gear.

inJust hit 10,000 hours on our old cutterhead dredge and the numbers shocked me
You said "cheap to patch up" but that's not quite it. The cost savings come from known failure points and bulk buying, not from skipping needed fixes. We track downtime religiously. Last quarter, Machine 7 had 12% less unplanned downtime than the newer Model 12s. Production rate per shift is within 3%. The data shows it's reliable, not just a money pit.

inI finally got my mom to stop using my comic books as coasters
Those X-Men comics are too valuable for coasters, glad you stepped in.

inPSA: My bulky canvas tent survived a hailstorm when my friend's fancy nylon one ripped.
Your 'bargain-bin tent' story hits home because I've had similar disasters. What did you do with all your wet gear after that car sleep? I MEAN, waking up in a puddle sounds like a nightmare that would make anyone swear off cheap tents for life. Was it just the tent, or did other stuff get ruined too? That kind of rain in the Ozarks can be NO JOKE, and it makes me wonder how you prep for trips now. Honestly, sometimes the hard lessons are what stick with you the most.

inMy old fear of electrical work faded after a simple switch replacement
Seriously @jakeperry, is fixing an outlet really that big of a life change?
