A friend's dad told me a story about a 1970s government project that got me digging

He was talking about a project in Nevada he worked on back in '78, and he said the official story for why it shut down never added up. I spent about two hours looking up old news articles and declassified files online. The official reason was budget cuts, but the timeline for the shutdown was way too fast for that to be the whole truth. What's a conspiracy theory you first heard from a family member that actually had some weird details to it?

My uncle swore they changed the recipe for Twinkies in the 90s. The shelf life thing was a cover story. He might have been onto something.

The 1999 Hostess bankruptcy did lead to some cost cutting. But a full recipe conspiracy over snack cakes, really?

Oh man, I still can't tell if my taste buds changed or if they actually ruined Twinkies (probably just my taste buds to be fair).

Actually I don't think Hostess had a bankruptcy in 1999, they filed for Chapter 11 in 2004 and then again in 2012. But I have noticed Twinkies taste a little different too, maybe it's just me though.
