Had to pick between a local concrete crew and a big national firm for a foundation pour in Boise.

The local guys were cheaper by about $8,000 but couldn't start for three weeks. The national firm could start Monday but their bid was way higher. I went with the locals to save the budget, and now we're a full week behind schedule waiting on them. Anyone else get burned trying to save money on a critical path item?

Yeah I did that once on a patio slab. The wait ended up costing more in the long run with other trades backed up. I mean now I just pay the rush fee if it's holding up the whole job.

Totally get that. Learned the hard way too, waiting on one thing just snowballs. Now I treat a rush fee like cheap insurance for the whole schedule.
