My high school teacher said to never write about dreams. I did it anyway.

Mrs. Ellis insisted dream sequences were a lazy crutch back in 1999. I wrote a whole story about a recurring nightmare for a contest last year and it won second place. Anyone else have a writing 'rule' they were glad they broke?

Mrs. Ellis would hate my entire first draft then. What specific rule did you break that made your story work, like using present tense or something?
