Vent: I forced myself to write a story about a sentient toaster and it won a local contest in Boise

A sentient toaster winning in Boise of all places. The judges must have really connected with its struggle against the bagel setting. I can just picture the final scene where it finds peace by perfectly browning a piece of sourdough. That's the kind of deep stuff that wins contests now.

Yeah, the trick is giving it a simple want, like @nora_chen said. My buddy's story about a lonely microwave just had it trying to reheat some cold coffee.
