My credit score tanked 40 points after a medical bill went to collections in Dallas

Last month, I got a letter from a collection agency for a $250 ER copay I totally forgot about. It was from a visit in Dallas three years ago. I paid it off the same day I got the letter, but my FICO score still dropped from 720 to 680. I thought paying it would fix things faster. Has anyone had luck getting a paid medical collection removed from their report?

My credit report has more drama than my last relationship!

Honestly I fixed mine by disputing three old accounts on Experian last year.

Actually, sometimes that drop is fair and the system is working right. A bill went to collections, which shows a past problem with paying on time, even if it was a mistake. Paying it off doesn't erase that it happened. The score is just doing its job to warn lenders. It's like what @william_rivera said about drama, but credit reports are supposed to be a boring record of facts, not feelings. Getting it removed after paying might just be gaming the system that everyone else has to follow.
