Never realized how one late payment could tank my score

I missed a $35 utility bill back in October when I switched apartments and forgot to update my address. Got a collections notice in November and my credit score dropped 60 points overnight down to 680. I called the utility company right away and paid the full balance plus a $5 late fee. They agreed to remove the collection from my report after I explained the situation. Has anyone else had luck getting a single late payment removed from their credit history?

60 points off a 680 is annoying sure but that's still a decent score (like you're not in the gutter or anything). I mean a 680 is still good enough for most loans and credit cards unless you're trying to buy a house tomorrow. You caught it quick and got it removed so honestly it's more of a headache than a real problem.

Nah but like a 680 isn't that great these days with how tight lenders are getting, and one mistake can mess up rates for years even if you fix it. Just saying, it's not nothing.
