Changed my mind about paying for extended warranties after a fridge disaster
My old fridge died three days after the one year manufacturer warranty ended. I always thought extended warranties were a scam. But when the repair guy told me the compressor replacement was $650 on a $1200 fridge, I kind of wished I had spent the extra $80. Now I'm wondering if there's any brand or store that actually offers a decent extended warranty that isn't full of fine print fine print. Anyone found one that worked?

My neighbor had the exact same thing happen with a Samsung fridge a few years back. He paid $120 for the extended warranty from Best Buy and they actually covered the whole compressor replacement no questions asked. I'm still skeptical because most of those warranties have so many exclusions you're basically throwing money away. But if you can find one that specifically covers the compressor and labor for at least 3 years it might be worth it for appliances that have a lot of horror stories online.
