The grocery store return desk used to just take things back. Now they interrogate you.
I tried to return a $4 bag of salad that was already slimy when I opened it. The lady asked me for my ID, my receipt, my phone number, and why I didn't check the date first. Felt like I was filing a police report. Anyone else notice stores making returns this hard?

Nah you're right actually, I used to roll my eyes at people complaining but after watching guys try to return half-eaten steaks at my local store I get it now.

People who work those counters probably deal with half a dozen people a day trying to scam them. A coworker of mine once bragged about returning a half eaten bag of chips saying it was stale just to get his money back. Stores have to ask for ID and receipts because otherwise everyone would just bring back empty packages for a refund. If you want to return slimy salad, you need to bring it back the same day and maybe check the expiration date on the bag before you buy it next time. The system only gets hard because too many people ruined it for everyone else.
