Vent: That return counter at Best Buy made me change my mind about warranties

Last month I went to return a soundbar that died after 3 months. The guy behind the counter spent 20 minutes arguing that the crackling noise was normal and I needed to "adjust my settings." I brought my laptop and literally played a recording of the static noise and he still said no. Three years ago I would have just left and bought a new one. But after running my own pest control business and seeing how much people hate being dismissed, I pushed for the district manager. She approved the swap in 2 minutes flat and even gave me a $25 gift card. Has anyone else had to go above a store manager to get a simple return done?

My Home Depot return took 45 minutes for a drill that stopped working on the second use. The guy at the counter kept saying I must have dropped it even though I showed him the box with no damage. I had to ask for a manager and then that manager's boss before they finally took it back. The weird part is they gave me a $10 store credit for the hassle but I still felt like I was begging for basic customer service. Now when I buy anything from a big store I take a picture of the receipt on my phone plus keep the paper copy just in case. Makes me wonder how many people just give up and leave.
