Hit a hidden pipe while digging fence posts last Saturday
Was setting posts for a new garden fence and my post hole digger punched straight through an old PVC drain line nobody told me about. Took me 3 hours to dig it out and patch it with a coupling. Has anyone else dealt with surprise underground stuff that wasn't on any map?

3 hours to dig it out and patch it" dang, that seems like a lot for a little PVC pipe. I mean unless it was some main water line or something. Most buried drain pipe is pretty forgiving, you could probably just slap some duct tape over it and call it good.

Three hours sounds brutal even if it was a main line. I had a similar thing last spring with my sprinkler system, dug down maybe 2 feet to find a crack in a 1 inch pipe and just patching it took me a solid 2 hours because the dirt kept caving in. Honestly though I wouldn't trust duct tape on anything underground unless it's a temporary fix to get water on for a few hours, the pressure from soil and moisture always seems to eat through it.
