Spent a whole week chasing a $5 coupon code and it blew up my budget
I used to think stacking every single coupon was the smart move, you know, like some kind of deal ninja. Last Tuesday I spent 3 hours hunting down a promo code for a $50 kitchen gadget. I finally found one for $5 off, but I got so distracted I missed a flash sale on the same item for $45 with free shipping. Ended up paying $47 after tax anyway, and I wasted my whole afternoon. What really got me was when my friend said 'you saved $5 but lost 3 hours, thats like making $1.67 an hour.' That hit hard. Now I just set a max of 15 minutes per deal and walk away if it takes longer. Has anyone else had a cheap coupon cost them more in the long run?

Yeah but imagine the ROI if I'd just bought lottery tickets with those three hours instead.

The 15 minute rule is actually genius. I fell into the same trap with a $2 off coupon last month. Spent an hour digging through junk mail and promo emails for a tiny discount on paper towels of all things. Meanwhile I forgot to check if my local store had a 20% off everything sale that weekend. Your friend's math is brutal but true. That $1.67 an hour line is going to stick with me for a while. It really makes you question whether those small wins are worth the time you lose for other stuff. Sometimes the best deal is just walking away after a quick check.
